The Crystal Factory of Portieux:
Lorraine had granted in 1448 under the reign of Jean II of Lorraine privileges for the glassmakers 3, assimilating them to the nobility. In particular, they were granted the possibility to collect the wood or water necessary for their activity on all the ducal lands. This naturally favored the development of this industry.
The history of the factory known today as the Portieux crystal factory began in Tonnoy either in 1670 or in 1690.
The modest glass factory founded in 1690 by François Magnien became two centuries later the most important company in the Vosges with a thousand employees. The Portieux crystal factory is the heir to one of the oldest French crystal factories.
