Pair of decorative small footstools, in carved and lacquered wood in the classic Louis XVI style.

 

Fine French work of the late 18th century, circa 1780.

In fine condition.

 

This type of small stool or footrest acquired particular significance in the 17th century under the French King Louis XIV. Being able to sit opposite the royal family was a real privilege, and these little stools served this purpose. They became symbols of privilege.
