Pair of Louis XVI style sconces Aux Termes de Femmes in chiseled and gilt bronze circa 1850-1870
Rare paire d’appliques dites Aux Termes de Femmes, en bronze finement ciselé dans une belle dorure au Mercure. Les fûts en forme de Termes de femmes terminés par des rinceaux d’acanthes entrelacées. Les deux bras de lumières simulants les membres supérieurs des femmes, dans un décor végétal de feuillages et de grappes de raisins. Légères différences dans les bobèches.
Magnificent French work from the Napoleon III period circa 1850-1870 in the Louis XVI style, similar to the work of the famous silversmith Robert-Joseph Auguste (1757-1801).
A similar model of the 18th century is kept at the Metropolitan Museum in New-York (Former Wrightsman collection).

In a very fine condition, with high quality cold chiseling and original mercury gilding with a double patina of amber and gloss.
