Italy - Set of six Louis XIV-style molded and carved lacquered wood chairs circa 1800

 

A highly decorative set of six chairs in molded, carved, cream lacquered and gold reupholstered wood, with straight backs and curved legs joined by an H-shaped brace. Decorated with shells on the belts and the upper part of the back, the front legs are highlighted with acanthus leaves. 

Beautiful Italian work in the Louis XIV style from the late 18th or early 19th century, coming from a luxurious Palace in the city of Cremona, their function was to be exhibited leaning against a wall under collections of paintings.
