French Louis XIV Period, Elegant flat black lacquered desk with ormolu masks circa 1700
The French Louis XIV period furniture of this quality is rare on the Art Market, the period is however long and at the same time very rich for the Decorative Arts. Our desk is dated to the late Louis XIV style and already foreshadows the French Regence period, it inherits its austere aspect from the Louis XIV period and begins to be inscribed by its moving forms in a softening that announces the French Regence style.
A rare, elegant, and decorative flat desk, in black lacquered fruitwood (pear tree) with gilt bronze decoration. In the belt, it opens with three drawers following the movements of the front. The entire desk is highlighted by a gilded bronze decoration: espagnolettes "said" to smiling masks, gilded bronze underlining the lines of the feet ended by superb finely chiseled animal hooves, inlaid with gilded brass the facade adorned with handles and entries of gilded bronze locks.
The top is encircled by an ormolu moulding and a magnificent patinated red leather with black leather inlay, all decorated with a gilded roulette, executed by our craftsman leather, Artisan Gainier.
