An important oil on canvas entitled Le Sommeil de Diane that André Planson will present at the Salon des Indépendants from March 2 to April 2, 1945 (handwritten mention on the back, as well as the trademark L. Besnard Lefranc)
Our painting shows Diana the Huntress lying naked on her back with a crescent in her hair and a bow and quiver at her side, another young woman resting next to her in a pretty blue dress, in the woods a little hidden a hunter is watching the young women and at the bottom of the wood a hunt seems to be taking place. A lot of symbolism for this excellent painter who offers us a painting using an interesting color palette. He offers us his definition of Poetic Reality.
Our painting in very good condition, on its original canvas in a beautiful gilt wood frame. It is signed in the lower left corner by André Planson. Mrs Marie-Dominique Planson daughter of the painter confirmed the authenticity of this work.

André Émile Planson is a French painter born on 1 April 1898 in La Ferté sous Jouarre and died on 29 September 1981 in Neuilly sur Seine.
Biography:
After receiving advice from Paul Mesle, a local painter, he attended the Ranson Academy (1917-1919) in Paris. With Roland Oudot, Maurice Brianchon, Christine Caillard, Roger Limouse and Raymond Legueult, he formed the group of Painters of Poetic Reality. He was a member of the Academy of Fine Arts (1960).
The works of this artist are mainly kept in the André Planson Museum in La Ferté-sous-Jouarre.
Pierre Mac-Orlan devoted an essay to him.
