Eugène Henri Cauchois (1850-1911) a country basket of grapes and fruit oil on canvas circa 1890
A very fine quality of execution in this beautiful and decorative oil on canvas, depicting a beautiful basket on the ground in the countryside, filled with black grapes, white grapes, and pear and apple fruits.
Signed lower right by Eugène Henri Cauchois, late 19th century circa 1890.

Very fine condition, professionally cleaned, with three minor old restorations that do not alter the quality of the artwork. The painting is in a magnificent carved wood and gilded stucco frame from the same period.
Biography:
Eugène Cauchois, born in Rouen (Seine Maritime), February 14, 1850, died in Paris, October 7, 1911. French painter.
Eugène Cauchois entered the School of Fine Arts in Paris in the classes of Ferdinand Dubos and Alexandre Cabanel. He specializes in still-life compositions based on fruit, flowers, and kitchen utensils. He also painted landscapes and marine views.
In 1876 in Paris, he married Louise Ladevèze, with painter Eugène Capelle as his best man.
He stayed in Brussels in 1878-1879. He was in the habit of signing his paintings with the name of the month in which they were painted.
At the end of his life, Eugène Cauchois took up decorative painting with floral compositions.
He had a Parisian studio at number 32 rue des Dames in Paris (17th arrondissement). The painter Marcellin Desboutin (1823-1902) was his neighbor there.

Eugène Cauchois débute au Le Salon de 1874, puis envoie ses œuvres au Salon des Artistes Français de 1881, de 1890 (où il devient sociétaire), de 1898 (médaille de troisième classe), de 1904 (médaille de seconde classe) et de 1908 (Le train a passé ; Mélancolie).
